IGG Arrests Senior Agricultural Engineer in Apac District for Alleged Forgery of Work Experience Document

The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has arrested Ms. Atim Mega, a Senior Agricultural Engineer with Apac District Local Government, for allegedly uttering a false document to secure her appointment.

According to a statement from the IGG, Ms. Atim was arrested following investigations that revealed she submitted a forged appointment letter as proof of her work experience during her application for the position in May 2024.

Details of the Allegation

The IGG claims that Ms. Atim presented an appointment letter dated 3rd February 2020 from Itek-Okille Farmers’ Cooperative Society as part of her credentials. However, the leadership of the cooperative has disowned the document, stating that she had never worked with them.

She recorded a statement at the IG Lira Regional Office on Monday, May 25, 2026, and is scheduled to appear in court in Apac District on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The IGG is charging her under Section 328 of the Penal Code Act CAP 128, which states that any person who knowingly and fraudulently utters a false document commits an offence and is liable to the same punishment as if they had forged it.

Implications

This case highlights ongoing challenges in Uganda’s local government recruitment processes and raises questions about due diligence by District Service Commissions when verifying candidates’ experience.
