Position Summary

This position reports to administratively to the GM CMA CGM Uganda Limited and functionally to the Cluster TBL Manager.

The TBL Officer is a commercially focused, sales enablement role that supports the growth of the TBL business by facilitating the conversion of eligible ocean shipments to TBL solutions and contributing to the achievement of the targeted 19% TBL contribution. Working closely with the sales team and internal stakeholders, the role supports customer engagement, solution positioning, and smooth execution to reinforce the TBL value proposition. Through coordinated support, performance tracking, and continuous feedback, the TBL Officer helps enable sales success, drive customer adoption, and support overall commercial objectives.

The role is based in Kampala, Uganda.

Main tasks and Responsibility

1. Export Tasks

  • Send arrival notices to the consignee, in collaboration with the relevant internal teams.
  • Update the Alternative Base Port per voyage/BL prior to the vessel’s arrival.
  • Request customers submit the mandatory SCT instructions.
  • Provide regular updates to customers in collaboration with the relevant internal teams.
  • Ensure all CAR 50 charges on collect and extra charges are invoiced by the service delivery team.
  • Request the Kenya TBL team to confirm all charges are collected before releasing the shipment.
  • Follow up with SSC Equipment/Logistics to update container moves, including arrival dates and offloading at shippers’ premises.
  • Collaborate with the sales team for weekly import conversions from Uganda.

2. Export Tasks

  • Coordinate export bookings once sales confirm the rates sold for new business.
  • Act as the point of contact with all TBL shippers to understand their specific requirements and ensure excellent service delivery.
  • Arrange shunting with our shunters and logistics team to avoid delays in collecting empties from depots.
  • Coordinate with the TBL Kenya team to arrange last-mile transport and export clearance.
  • Follow up with shippers to ensure correct documentation is provided in good time, avoiding delays for transporters.
  • Ensure containers are linked to the correct bookings with the logistics team.
  • Share draft BLs with customers and ensure all TBL charges are billed before releasing the Bill of Lading.
  • Conduct regular visits to our ICDs/depots to monitor how TBL units are being handled and report back to the team.
  • Participate in regular visits with the sales team to meet new customers and build strong business relationships.

3. Auxiliary tasks

  • Provide weekly feedback from internal and external customers to fine-tune our rates and improve delivery service.
  • Gather market intelligence on pricing, new opportunities, and additional scope to enhance the TBL offering, benchmarking insights from interactions with agents and customers.
  • Miscellaneous related duties, tasks and projects as may be assigned

 

Profile description:

Skills and Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in shipping, commerce, sales and marketing, supply chain or similar qualification 2-5 years’ prior experience sales desired.
  • Be familiar and constantly up to date with the latest global and regional maritime trade developments, changing market environments and competitors updates as far as the  business is concerned
  • Familiar with MS Outlook, MS Project or other project and time management software applications.
  • Excellent analytical, presentation, follow up, decision-making, problem-solving, interpersonal, negotiation, conflict-management and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels in the organization; ability to explain technical features to non-technical audiences and vice-versa.
  • Not afraid of changes, flexible and adaptable.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and international set up.
  • Cultural awareness, sensitivity to culture and customs.
  • Ability to travel abroad on assignments.
