Description

Smart Applications International (Uganda) Ltd is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Software Engineer Back-End to join our Digital Transformation Directorate.

The Successful candidate will contribute to the development, testing, maintenance, and continuous improvement of software applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in developing small to medium software modules as assigned by Software Engineer Il/Senior Engineer.
  • Write clean, efficient, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Participate in peer code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Conduct basic unit testing and contribute to automated test cases.
  • Support the maintenance of project documentation, internal tools, and utilities.
  • Apply established development practices, coding standards, and version-control processes.
  • Actively participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and other
  • Agile team activities.
  • Collaborate with other team members to troubleshoot issues and deliver quality software solutions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 1-2 years of professional software development experience. Internships and entry-level experience may be considered.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or C#.
  • Familiarity with Git or other source-control systems.
  • Basic understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Strong willingness to learn, develop technical skills, and grow within a software engineering environment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exposure to front-end or back-end frameworks such as Angular &
    Java Spring Boot.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Familiarity with development environments and tools such as VS Code or IntelliJ IDEA.
  • Basic knowledge of REST APIs and database interactions.
