Africa Medical and Behavioral Sciences Organization (AMBSO) www.ambso.org is a Private Not for profit (PNFP) organization, with its Head offices at Nansana, along Hoima Road and satellite offices in Hoima and Kalisizo in Kyotera district. AMBSO conducts a wide range of activities of public health interest including clinical research, community-based health surveillance research; programs for health care service delivery and capacity building among health care and community health workers.

AMBSO is seeking to recruit qualified, committed and reliable candidates to beef up its staffing to support routine activities at its Masaka Clinical Research Site. Applications are therefore invited from interested persons to fill the position below.

Job Title: Accounts Assistant (1 Position)

Location: Kalisizo – Kyotera

District “Masaka Clinical Research Site”

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accurately post and update financial transactions in the accounting system in a timely manner and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Verify payment requests and supporting documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with approved budgets and organizational policies.
  • Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and promptly report any negative variances or concerns to the supervisor.
  • Process payments and maintain records of all financial transactions in line with approved procedures and schedules.
  • Manage petty cash, including disbursements, reconciliations, and timely replenishment requests.
  • Bank all cash receipts promptly and prepare periodic cash receipt and banking reports.
  • Perform monthly cashbook and general ledger reconciliations and report any discrepancies for review and corrective action.
  • Support the preparation of statutory returns by compiling and maintaining relevant records and documentation for taxes (PAYE, WHT, and LST) and other statutory obligations such as NSSF.
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitoring by providing accurate financial information and expenditure reports as required.
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and schedules for management review and audit purposes.
  • Maintain an organized filing system for financial records and ensure all supporting documents are properly archived and easily retrievable.
  • Ensure compliance with the organization’s financial policies, procedures, and internal control requirements.
  • Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing and availing required documentation and explanations.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration (Accounting Option),
  • Commerce, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant accounting or finance experience.
    Professional accounting qualifications or training such as CPA, ACCA, CAT, or equivalent will be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
    Good analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to reside and work in a rural setting, preferably in Kalisizo, Kyotera District.
