Part of Volcafe Group, Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd is Uganda’s oldest licensed Coffee Exporter, established in 1992.
Kyagalanyi produces and exports green Robusta and Arabica (washed and natural) coffee from all major growing areas in Uganda, with the vision of making coffee business better, together.
We work hard towards Volcafe’s ambition to be the world’s best coffee partner, by focusing on partnerships and long-term relationships. With a modern processing facility in Namanve, Kampala, a parchment reception & storage centre in Mbale, storage centre in Masaka and several washing stations in Bugoye, Kisinga and Mount Elgon, we seek to be our donors and roasters partner of choice.
We have sustainable coffee schemes supporting farming households to increase production and improve quality, focusing as well on sustainability topics such as carbon assessing, landscaping, gender, coffee youth teams, child education and many more.
As Kyagalanyi, we also have our own roastery to promote high quality Ugandan coffees in local and export markets.
Job purpose
To contribute to the general mission of the sustainability department of Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd. (KCL) in your area of deployment: Sustainably improve coffee production and quality of KCL producers in order to
- increase certified premium coffee purchases by the company.
- improve the livelihood of KCL producer families.
Main duties and responsibilities
Management of Business Model Farms
- Be fully accountable for the Business Model Farm that you are responsible for. This includes:
- Implementation and management of GAPs with support from Coffee Youth Teams and farmers as per KCL guidelines.
- Distribution of tools and inputs and correct application of inputs provided by KCL;
C.Record keeping including Business Diagnosis.
- Data collection and reporting
- Supervision of the activities that are being done by the Coffee Youth Team members in the model farms you manage.
- Organise the model farms to be suitable for trainings and practical adoption of Good Agronomic Practices
- Reporting any issues affecting the model farms to your line manager.
Mobilization and support during coffee season
1.Mobilise certified coffee as per targets set by KCL Management
Support FAQ quality controls.
Ensure all traceability documentation for your groups/area is correct and in place; and Make timely excess delivery reports where applicable.
Planning and reporting
1.Attend weekly planning meetings with your Line Manager
Submit weekly work plans in line with your targets to your Line Manager; and Submit monthly reports, including trainings records, improvement plans, demo and model farm reports etc on time to TCA supervisors.
Build your own capacity as a Field Officer
1.Actively participate in any staff trainings organized by KCL;
Internalise all KCL training materials and hand books.
Actively participate in Volcafe Way activities in your area, including business diagnosis, management of Business Model Farms and farm trainings; and
Use all opportunities available to learn hands on, including managing your own farm as per Volcafe Way standards.
OTHER DUTIES
1.Support partner projects and visits as at and when required
Attend to any other company duties as requested by your Line Manager.
Required qualifications, experience, and competence
- Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agribusiness, or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant work experience in (Robusta) coffee value chains and actively working in the field with coffee farmers.
- Strong working experience with implementation of international certification standards such as
Rainforest Alliance Standard and Nespresso AAA.
• Sound knowledge of and experience in working with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English and Luganda.
- Good knowledge of the Greater Masaka region. Previous working experience in the region is an added advantage.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships.
