Job Profile: Finance & Operations Officer – MtindoReports to: Finance & Operations Lead

Location: Gulu, Uganda

Purpose of the RoleAs the Finance & Operations Officer, you are the engine behind Mtindo’s daily numbers and production tracking. Working directly with our Finance & Operations Lead, this is an active, on-the-ground role where you will own daily bookkeeping, keep our data spotless, and physically verify inventory right on the workshop floor.

Your mission is to maintain the integrity of our systems, ensuring that every piece of operational data generated on the floor is clean, leak-free, and prepared for future ERP implementation.

The Finance & Operations Officer supports Mtindo’s day-to-day financial and operational record-keeping as the organization moves toward more structured, process-driven ways of working. This is a hands-on role focused on accurate data capture, basic costing support, and reliable reporting, helping lay the groundwork for the larger systems and ERP transformation Mtindo is planning.

Key ResponsibilitiesBookkeeping & Financial Records

  • Maintain accurate day-to-day bookkeeping, including capturing all invoices, receipts, and expense vouchers.
  • Administer the petty cash system, executing strict daily cash counts and processing timely replenishment requests.
  • Process vendor and staff payments strictly in accordance with approved budgets and Local Purchase Orders (LPOs).
  • Reconcile bank statements and support month-end closing activities.

Costing & Inventory Support

  • Batch Costing Linkage: Maintain and update our batch costing worksheets daily. You will track a production batch from raw material to finished goods and track related batch costs both direct and indirect.
  • Invoice & Order Alignment: Verify that the actual costs recorded match the cost assumptions used in the original client billing.
  • Maintain up-to-date inventory records and support periodic stock counts
  • Flag discrepancies in stock, costs, or vendor invoices to the Finance & Operations Lead.

Reporting & Data Quality

  • Prepare routine financial and operational reports (cash flow summaries, expense trackers, stock reports).
  • Keep SKU lists, vendor records, and cost data organized and consistently formatted.
  • Support audits and due-diligence requests by organizing supporting documentation.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Assist with receivables and payables tracking to support healthy cash flow.
  • Provide general administrative support to the finance and operations function as needed.

Education & Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Progress toward professional stages of CPA or ACCA is a distinct advantage.
  • 1–3 years of relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience; experience in a manufacturing, apparel, or production environment is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace) and willingness to learn new tools.

Skills & Personal Qualities

  • The “Grit” Factor: You love clean data and thrive in a flat, fast-moving environment. You are excited to leave the desk to count fabric rolls or verify tailor outputs on the workshop floor.
  • Radical Attention to Detail: High standard of accuracy; minor mismatches in stock counts or payroll entries bother you instantly.
  • Organized & Reliable: Disciplined time-manager capable of hitting recurring daily, weekly, and month-end deadlines without friction.
  • Mission Driven: A genuine interest in social entrepreneurship, vocational training, and sustainable enterprise development in Gulu

What We Offer

  • Hands-on mentorship from senior financial leadership within a globally supported enterprise.
  • Clear career growth pathway within an expanding, high-impact fashion and textile brand.
