GreenFaith is a global, multi-faith, grassroots organization building a movement for climate and environmental justice. A key part of its organizing consists of opposing new fossil fuel projects and deforestation. Among its campaigns, it mobilizes people of faith and spirit to stop the new oil field Tilenga, in Uganda, and the associated new pipeline EACOP, linking Tanzania – projects led primarily by French multinational company TotalEnergies. GreenFaith’s community of action gathers individuals and “Circles”, i.e. communities of care, resilience, and resistance who meet regularly, are rooted in faith and spirituality, and take bold, public action against fossil fuel corporations, institutions, and decision-maker levels.
Main purpose of job
The National Coordinator will work full time and be responsible for implementing the campaign in Uganda until December 31, 2025, under and together with GreenFaith’s Global Director of Program/GreenFaith Africa Director Ms. Meryne Warah, who leads the campaign. He/She will help define the campaign’s strategy and the annual organizing plan, reach out and recruit faith activists, together with the education and training department provide education and training, start and support GreenFaith Circles, organize public actions, collaborate with religious and secular partners, help with communications and media. He will also work together with the larger GreenFaith team, especially in Europe, for a holistic approach to the project.
Main duties
Strategic planning
➢ Contribute to defining the purposes, outcomes, processes (POP) of the campaign.
➢ Help define and refine, as needed, the campaign’s narrative and key messages.
➢ Follow Tilenga and EACOP, and associated information and campaigns.
Base-building in Uganda
➢ Provide in-presence and online on-ramps for the campaign.
➢ Recruit new persons of faith and spirit as participants in the campaign.
➢ Recruit, educate and train in the view of the creation of GreenFaith Circles.
➢ Identify and hold 2 circle training sessions each for the 5 newly formed circles.
Public actions organizing
➢ Organize the actions (in-person and digital) campaigns.
➢ Support the first steps and first public actions of new GreenFaith Circles in Uganda.
➢ A priority organizing focus will be put on the global STOP EACOP campaign, base building, circle formation and growing the email list multi-faith and on “Faiths 4 Climate Justice”
➢ Secure at least 5 distributed public stop EACOP actions in Uganda
➢ Organize 1 Stop EACOP key action with high public and media impact.
○ Follow up with individuals and groups and create Circles after the action.
➢ Contribute to non-public and/or public actions of the Uganda Stop EACOP partners.
➢ Collaborate with the GreenFaith Europe team, especially France, and people and Circles who mobilize against Tilenga and EACOP in Tanzania.
Partnership-building
➢ Strengthen collaboration with religious and secular partners, including the Laudato Si’ Movement France, Spiritual leaders, village elders and opinion holders, youth, women, 350.org, and Afyego, natural Justice, among others.
➢ Increase the number of partners of GreenFaith in Uganda, in particular in the Muslim, Hindu, Pastoralists/ Indigenous communities.
Communications
➢ Keep the digital and comms team posted with local content that will be used to populate the web page of the campaign updated and functional.
➢ Ensure regular posting on social media, together with the comms team.
➢ Manage emailing for the campaign.
➢ Help generate the local narrative and story in collaboration with the digital and comms team.
General GreenFaith work
➢ Bring some support to the global organizing effort towards as they may arise
➢ Take part in the weekly all-team and organize team meetings.
➢ Maintain one-on-one check-in with your supervisor

Person specification
Qualifications
● Degree in relevant discipline (e.g., Law, human rights, social science, community development, gender equality, political economy, public policy, etc.
Experience
● A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience. Proven record in project planning, community mobilization, movement building and base building in Uganda.
● Strong management and high-level coordination track record on national, regional and global campaign processes, events and organizing public actions. This includes managing multi-stakeholder processes and relationships.
● Experience partnership building and working with and within networks: civil society, private sector, faith based organizations
● Report writing and program implementation
