JKCC Staff Youth in Coffee SACCO is a duly registered Savings and Credit Cooperative
Society under the Cooperative Societies Act, proudly owned by smallholder coffee farmers. Our
mission is to promote a saving culture and provide affordable financial services to boost our
members’ coffee production, processing, and household incomes.
Job Summary
The SACCO Accountant will manage the daily financial and accounting operations. The
successful candidate will ensure accurate record-keeping of member savings, track loan
disbursements and recoveries, and maintain transparent financial reports.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Accurately track and record daily revenue from coffee harvest loan repayments, interest on
loans, and investment returns in line with accounting standards.
Reconcile seasonal farmer cash inflows and ensure interest income is recognized correctly
when due.
Maintain an up-to-date register of member share capital contributions, ensuring clear
separation between withdraw-able savings and non-withdraw-able permanent shares.
Properly account for periodic membership registration fees and annual subscription payments,
updating member passbooks and digital ledgers promptly.
Post and balance daily financial transactions into the SACCO’s financial software.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement,
and Cash Flow) for management and the Board.
Enforce strict financial internal controls to safeguard farmers’ pooled resources.
Ensure timely filing of statutory obligations and cooperative returns with local authorities.
Maintain and balance the general ledger, cash books, and member accounts daily.
Process member savings deposits, withdrawals, and loan applications in line with SACCO
policy.
Reconcile bank accounts, cash registers, and daily collection sheets from coffee-selling hubs.
Assist in preparing operational budgets and monitoring cash flows.
Support internal and external audits.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
Experience: At least 2 to 3 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in a financial institution, SACCO, or agricultural cooperative.
Computer Literacy: Strong proficiency in MS Excel and working knowledge of specialized SACCO/Cooperative software.
Core Competencies: High level of personal integrity, honesty, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work smoothly with rural farming communities.
Added Advantage: Progress towards professional courses like CPA/ACCA or a Certificate in Cooperative Management.
