Role Overview:
The Environmental Officer position designed to provide the holder with practical experience in environmental management and sustainability practices. Under the guidance of senior professionals, the t will contribute to projects and initiatives aimed at promoting environmental compliance, sustainability, and the implementation of environmental best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental Compliance Support:
Assist in monitoring and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
Participate in preparing reports for regulatory authorities.
Data Collection and Analysis:
Gather and analyze environmental data, including water quality, air quality, waste management, and soil samples.
Maintain accurate records and provide regular updates on environmental metrics.
Sustainability Initiatives:
Support the development and implementation of sustainability programs, such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, and resource conservation.
Conduct awareness campaigns and training sessions to promote environmental consciousness among staff.
Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA):
Assist in conducting ElAs and Environmental audits for ongoing and upcoming projects.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate potential environmental risks and propose mitigation measures.
Fieldwork and Inspections:
Participate in on-site inspections and environmental audits.
Identify areas for improvement and recommend corrective actions.
Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare technical documents, including environmental policies, procedures, and reports.
Contribute to the preparation of presentations and other communication materials for stakeholders.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments to ensure integration of environmental strategies into organizational goals.
Provide support for cross-functional projects and initiatives.
Follow ups
Make follow ups with the specific regulations like NEMA and other stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, or a related field.
Technical Skills:
Basic understanding of environmental regulations and standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Knowledge of GIS or environmental modeling software is a plus.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
Attention to detail and organizational skills.
Additional Requirements:
Willingness to travel for fieldwork and inspections.
Passion for environmental sustainability and a proactive attitude.
