General Manager – Starlink Business, Uganda

Role Purpose
The General Manager will be responsible for launching, managing, and rapidly growing Nexus Green’s Starlink B2B business in Uganda.
The position carries full commercial and operational responsibility for corporate sales, regional expansion, installations, customer service, inventory, regulatory compliance, marketing, revenue collection, and profitability.
The General Manager will build and lead a high-performing national team and establish Nexus Green as Uganda’s leading provider of Starlink business connectivity solutions.
The successful candidate must have strong leadership experience within telecommunications, internet services, data connectivity, ICT, or enterprise technology, together with a proven record of selling to SMEs, large corporations, government institutions, and multi-site organisations.
Key Responsibilities
Business Leadership and Strategy
- Develop and execute the national business plan for the Starlink B2B division.
- Take full responsibility for revenue, gross margin, operating costs, collections, and profitability.
- Lead the commercial launch and expansion of Starlink business services throughout Uganda.
- Prepare annual budgets, sales forecasts, operational plans, and performance reports.
- Identify new markets, customer segments, regional territories, and strategic partnerships.
- Report regularly to the Group CEO on sales, operations, financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
Sales and Business Development
- Build and manage a high-performing corporate and regional sales organisation.
- Recruit, train, and lead sales managers, account executives, regional representatives, and business development personnel.
- Develop sector-specific sales strategies targeting:
- SMEs and large corporations
- Hotels and hospitality groups
- Factories and manufacturers
- Commercial farms
- Hospitals and healthcare providers
- Banks and financial institutions
- Logistics and warehousing companies
- Mining and construction companies
- Government institutions
- Schools and universities
- NGOs and international organisations
- Personally lead major corporate, institutional, and government opportunities.
- Establish sales territories, monthly targets, commission structures, and CRM reporting.
- Build a strong pipeline and ensure disciplined lead generation, proposal preparation, negotiation, and closing.
Regional Expansion
- Establish regional sales and operational coverage across Uganda.
- Identify priority territories based on commercial activity and connectivity challenges.
- Appoint and manage regional teams, representatives, agents, or approved partners.
- Ensure regional operations meet agreed sales, service, collection, and profitability targets.
Operations and Customer Experience
- Oversee the complete customer journey from quotation and contracting through installation, activation, billing, and after-sales support.
- Ensure installations are completed professionally, safely, and within agreed timelines.
- Establish clear operating procedures for onboarding, site surveys, installations, technical support, complaints, replacements, and escalations.
- Monitor service quality, installation completion, customer satisfaction, and fault-resolution performance.
- Ensure strategic corporate and government customers receive high-quality account management.
Inventory and Logistics
- Oversee forecasting and availability of Starlink kits, routers, mounts, cables, accessories, and installation materials.
- Ensure accurate inventory records, serial-number tracking, stock reconciliation, warehousing, and dispatch.
- Prevent stock shortages, equipment loss, unauthorised activation, and installation delays.
Financial Management
- Take ownership of the division’s profit-and-loss performance.
- Monitor pricing, margins, discounts, commissions, installation costs, customer acquisition costs, and operating expenditure.
• Work with Finance to ensure accurate billing, reconciliation, collections, and management reporting.
• Establish effective credit-control and debt-collection procedures.
• Approve commercial terms within delegated authority and escalate exceptional discounts or commitments.
Marketing and Partnerships
- Develop the Starlink Uganda B2B launch and marketing strategy.
- Lead corporate events, demonstrations, roadshows, digital campaigns, and sector-specific promotions.
- Develop partnerships with business associations, technology providers, government institutions, and other strategic organisations.
- Ensure all marketing complies with Starlink and Nexus Green brand requirements.
Regulatory and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Uganda Communications Commission requirements and all applicable Ugandan laws.
- Maintain required licences, registrations, customer records, KYC processes, and regulatory reports.
- Act as the principal commercial and operational contact between Nexus Green and Starlink.
- Ensure employees, agents, and subcontractors comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership
- Design the organisational structure for the Starlink business.
- Recruit and lead teams across sales, technical operations, customer service, logistics, finance, and administration.
- Establish clear KPls, reporting lines, performance reviews, and accountability.
- Build a results-driven, ethical, customer-focused, and commercially disciplined culture.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Telecommunications, ICT, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, or a related field.
- A postgraduate business qualification would be an advantage.
- At least 10 years’ experience in telecommunications, internet services, data connectivity, ICT, or enterprise technology.
- At least five years in a senior commercial, country management, or general management position.
- Proven experience managing revenue, budgets, costs, teams, and profitability.
- Strong record of selling internet, data, telecommunications, or ICT solutions to corporate and government customers.
- Experience building and managing corporate and regional sales teams.
- Strong understanding of the Ugandan business and telecommunications environment.
- Experience managing operations, installations, customer support, inventory, and collections.
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, financial-management, and stakeholder-engagement skills.
Desirable Experience
- Previous leadership role with a telecom operator, ISP, satellite-connectivity provider, or enterprise ICT company.
- Existing relationships with major Ugandan corporations, government institutions, NGOs, and business associations.
- Experience launching a new telecommunications or technology business.
- Familiarity with satellite internet, managed Wi-Fi, cybersecurity, cloud services, and backup power solutions.
- Experience managing reseller, distributor, or multi-location operations.
