Goethe-Zentrum Kampala
About
The Research Lab (TRL) is a Goethe-Zentrum initiative established in 2024, committed to fostering greater reflection and intellectual rigour in the conception, creation, and mediation of art. Rooted in the belief that artistic practice and critical inquiry are inseparable, it invites artists and cultural practitioners to participate in an immersive programme spanning four to twelve weeks, with each edition directed toward a specific artistic genre. Through a carefully structured curriculum that integrates academic discourse with hands-on practice, participants are challenged to deepen their theoretical frameworks while expanding their creative horizons.
TRL 2026
In 2026, the Research Lab (TRL) will focus on cultural practitioners working in theatre in Uganda. Over the course of three months, the programme will offer workshops and open discussions on cultural fundraising, project conceptualisation, and grant management. Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a field visit to Nairobi to attend the Kenya International Theatre Festival, scheduled for November.
