In Uganda, UNODC implements programmes focused on crime prevention, criminal justice reform, and environmental protection, contributing to national and global efforts under SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Communication and visibility play a critical role in ensuring effective outreach, stakeholder engagement, and impact of these initiatives.

 

The Project Officer (Communications) will be based in Kampala and will support programme implementation through communication, media engagement, and visibility efforts. The role focuses on content development, digital communication, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge management.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Communication & Content Development

  • Draft, edit, and design communication materials aligned with UN standards.
  • Develop content for websites, newsletters, and publications.
  • Ensure branding and visibility compliance across all outputs.

2. Digital Platforms & Media Engagement

  • Maintain and update websites, databases, and social media platforms.
  • Coordinate media relations and public information activities.
  • Liaise with journalists, partners, and stakeholders to enhance programme visibility.

3. Multimedia & Outreach Activities

  • Support production of multimedia content (photos, videos, audio, online content).
  • Contribute to planning and implementation of outreach campaigns and visibility events.
  • Assist in organizing communication activities and stakeholder engagements.

4. Programme Support & Coordination

  • Support administrative and logistical processes, including procurement and budget tracking.
  • Contribute to communication strategies and programme planning.
  • Assist in coordination with partners and stakeholders.

5. Monitoring, Reporting & Knowledge Management

  • Support data collection, analysis, and reporting of communication activities.
  • Contribute to documentation of results, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Strengthen knowledge management and information sharing processes.

 

Profile Required

Experience

Minimum 3 years relevant experience, including:

  • Communications, media relations, or public information
  • Content development, editing, and digital communication
  • Event organization and stakeholder engagement
  • Multimedia production and management of digital platforms
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media, Public Relations, Social Sciences, or related field.

 

Languages

  • Fluent English
