ROLE PROFILES

SENIOR LECTURER

Overall Purpose

Teach, supervise, mentor, evaluate graduate and under-graduate students; conduct research in his/her area of expertise, disseminate research findings, participate in community service and supervise teaching staff below the rank of Senior Lecturer.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teaching and Learning

  1. Prepare, teach, mentor, supervise and evaluate graduate and under-graduate students using current, appropriate, effective teaching, learning methodologies and tools.
  2. Liaise with the HOD to ensure that the teaching schedule for graduate and undergraduate students is available before beginning of semester.
  3. Evaluate students using continuous assessments and end of the trimester exams through effective tools such as coursework, viva-voce, written exams and submitting results to the department on time.
  1. Train and mentor graduate students and academic staff below his/her rank in area of expertise to enhance their learning and teaching skills.
  2. Compile quarterly reports on the respective Academic activities and present to the Head of Department.
  3. Participate in programme development and review.
  4. Supervise student internship/field work in his/her discipline.
  5. Attend departmental and faculty meetings when called upon.
  6. Serve in the Faculty academic, innovation, research and other relevant committees.

2. Research, Publications, consultancies, and Grants

  1. Conduct/participate, supervise novel researches and disseminate the findings through;
    Refereed research journals and articles.
    ii. Public lectures, conferences/symposiums, seminars and workshops.
  2. Liaise with the HOD to provide high quality postgraduate research supervision and attract research students to the University.
  3. Participate in writing proposals and bidding for grant projects as principal investigator (PI) or lead consultant in his/her area of specialization.
  4. Review proposals for research grants by graduate students and other academic staff in order to offer guidance and feedback.
  5. Offer expertise and strategic direction within own research field and review of journals/publications/books in their respective academic discipline.
    Maintain a high-quality record of regular and original research publications of reputable standards in the relevant field or discipline.

3. Community Engagement

  1. Participate in community engagements/outreaches in different organizations to identify problems related to the area of expertise and work towards solutions.
  2. Act as a contact person in the specific field of engagement to stakeholders.
  3. Attend relevant conferences/ symposia/ seminars/ workshops to disseminate research findings.
  4. Assist the Dean/HoD in liaising with various communities and stakeholders in relation to student’s activities and other collaborations.

4. Financial

a) Generate revenue through grants and consultancies for the department and University at large.

Qualifications

i A PhD holder in a relevant field. ii Master’s degree in the relevant field. iii First class or 2nd Class Upper division Bachelors

iv Three (3) years of university teaching experience or relevant working experience in a reputable organisation or Industry.

v Six 6) recognised publications in the area of specialisation, three (3) of which one is the First/Corresponding/ Senior author.

vi Evidence of contributions to the Community

LECTURER

Overall Purpose

Prepare, teach, mentor and evaluate undergraduate, graduate students at the level of Masters, post graduate diploma using current, innovative, appropriate, effective teaching learning methodologies and tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teaching and Learning:

    1. Prepare, teach, mentor and evaluate undergraduate and graduate students using continuous assessments and end of semester exams through effective tools such as practical, viva-voce, invigilating written exams and timely submission of results to the HOD.
    2. Prepare teaching schedule and lecture materials before beginning of semester and submitting to the HOD.
    3. Train and mentor academic staff below his/her academic rank in his/her area of expertise, teaching and learning to build the teaching skills.
    4. Promote theoretically informed and innovative approaches to learning and teaching.
  • Supervise student internship/field work in his/her discipline.
    1. Provide training and mentorship sessions to graduate students to enhance their learning skills.
    2. Participate in programme development and review as and when necessary.
    3. Attend departmental meetings when called upon.
  • Compile quarterly reports on the respective Academic activities and present to the Head of Department.

2. Research, Publications, consultancies, and Grants:

  1. Assist students under their supervision in the area of research, scholarly publication, grants writing and consultancy skills.
  2. Contribute towards building a high-quality record of regular, original and reputable research publications in the relevant field or discipline.
  3. Identify and submit grants and consultancy proposals for funding.
  4. Participate in scholarly work such as writing peer reviewed articles, giving public lectures, attending conferences/symposia, seminars and workshops.
  5. Review research proposals/projects of students and staff under his/her supervision and provide them with timely feedback.

3. Community Engagement:

  1. Participate in the community engagements/outreaches in different organizations to identify problems related to the area of expertise and work towards solutions.

ASSISTANT LECTURER

Overall Purpose

Prepare, teach, mentor and evaluate under-graduate, and graduate students at the level of post-graduate diploma using current, innovative, appropriate and effective teaching and learning methodologies and tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teaching and Learning:

  1. To prepare, teach, mentor and evaluate undergraduate and postgraduate diploma students to enhance their learning skills.
  2. Train and mentor Teaching Assistants in his/her area of expertise, teaching, and learning to build their teaching skills.
  3. Evaluate students using continuous assessments and end-of-semester exams through relevant tools, invigilating written exams, and marking and submitting results to the department on time.
  4. Supervise students’ internship/fieldwork in his/her discipline as per the departmentally approved schedule.
  5. Attend departmental meetings when called upon.
  6. Compile quarterly reports on the respective Academic activities and present to the immediate supervisor.
  7. Preparing teaching schedule and lecture materials before the beginning of the semester and submitting to the HOD.

2. Research, Publications, consultancies, and Grants

  1. Assisting students under their supervision in the area of research, scholarly publication, grants writing and consultancy skills.
