Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is a public Limited Company, fully
owned by the Government of the Republic of Uganda and holds the following operational
licences. System Operator, Operation of the High Voltage Transmission Grid, Bulk Power Supply,
Import and Export of Power and; Public Infrastructure Provider (for ownership and operation of the
Optic Fibre).

UETCL invites applications from suitable and eligible candidates to fill the position of:
Job Title : Substation Operator (17)
Department : Network Operations & Maintenance
Reports to : Maintenance Engineer (Substations)
Job Purpose
Responsible for the operation, maintenance and monitoring of electrical equipment in
substations, ensuring safe and efficient power delivery.
Key Results Areas
1. Monitor switchboard instruments to detect disturbances and ensure proper functioning of
the equipment.
2. Perform routine inspections and maintenance on electrical equipment, including
transformers, circuit breakers and auxiliary supply systems.
3. Monitor performance of transformers & switchgear and documenting any anomalies.
4. Carry out operating as per switching instructions from National Control Center and to receive
switching instructions.
5. Respond to emergencies and outages including operating to interrupt current flow and
connecting alternate circuits as needed.
6. Undertaken monthly energy meter readings
7. Ensure proper housekeeping in substations
Person Specifications
1. Ordinary Diploma in Electrical Engineering
2. 2 years’ experience in power system operation and maintenance
3. Ability to work for long hours outside the normal hours.
4. A person of integrity, highly motivated, innovative, proactive and committed team player.
5. Willing to work in any of the following UETCL substations (Gulu, Nebbi, Nkenda (kasese),
Tororo, Bujagali, Karuma, Achwa, Muzizi, Kabalega (Hoima), etc.)
