Fridays For Future Uganda (FFU) is Uganda’s largest youth-led climate justice movement and a proud member of the
global Fridays For Future network. Since its founding, FFU has grown into a dynamic force for environmental advocacy,
community empowerment, and policy engagement across Uganda and the East African region.
FFU operates a range of programs including climate education, tree planting campaigns, community clean-ups, research
and policy advocacy, gender and climate justice initiatives, and youth mentorship. The organization has participated in
global climate events including COP27 and COP28, and was awarded the Human Rights Prize 2023 for its outstanding
contributions to environmental and social justice.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Volunteer Research and Project Assistant position is designed to provide young people with practical, hands-on
experience in research, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and climate advocacy. The role offers a
unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to FFU’s mission while building professional skills in a supportive and
dynamic environment.
The position is hybrid in nature, combining remote work with occasional in-person engagements in Kampala. Volunteers
are expected to maintain professional conduct, meet deadlines, and be available for occasional travel within Uganda as
required by project activities.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct desk research on climate change, environmental policy, gender and climate justice, and related topics as
assigned.
• Support the development of research briefs, policy papers, reports, and presentations.
• Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of FFU programs and projects.
• Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) activities including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Document project activities through written reports, photographs, and social media content.
• Assist in stakeholder engagement, including organizing meetings, workshops, and community dialogues.
• Contribute to advocacy campaigns, public communications, and digital content creation.
• Support fundraising efforts including proposal writing and donor reporting.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Academic Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree in Development Studies, Environmental Studies,
Climate Science, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Gender Studies, Project Management, or a related field.
Experience:
• No prior professional experience is required. However, previous volunteering, internship, or leadership experience in
community organizations, student movements, or NGOs is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Good organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic digital literacy (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, social media platforms).
• Interest in climate justice, environmental sustainability, and youth empowerment.
• Willingness to learn, adapt, and take initiative.
