Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services for People with Disabilities in Uganda (CoRSU) is
Uganda’s leading center providing pediatric orthopedic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery
alongside comprehensive rehabilitation to support inclusion and integration.
Established in 2006, CoRSU delivers specialized care to children with disabilities,
particularly from underserved communities through the CBID program. The hospital
conducts an average of 3,000 surgeries annually and has supported over 70,000 surgeries,
reaching more than 100,000 people with rehabilitation services. CoRSU works in partnership
with government, donors, and communities to strengthen referral systems, promote inclusion,
and restore mobility, dignity, and hope across Uganda.

Job Title: Orthopaedics Technologist
Number of vacancies: 02
Employment type: Contract.
Reporting to: Orthopaedic workshop Team leader
Department: Rehabilitation department – Orthopedic workshop
Overall job objective:
Responsible for providing technical support to orthopedic patients, including fabrication,
fitting, training and maintenance of orthopedic devices; such as prostheses and orthoses
Functional Outputs/Activities per key performance area:
Fabrication and Fitting:
▪ Fabricate custom-made orthopedic devices, including prostheses and orthoses based on
patient measurements, physician and therapist prescriptions using thermomoulding, 3D
technology and lamination technique.
▪ Fit and adjust orthopedic devices to ensure proper alignment, comfort, and function.
▪ Modify orthopedic devices as needed to accommodate changes in patient conditions or
requirements.
Patient Care:
▪ Provide patient education on the use and care of orthopedics devices.
▪ Conduct initial and follow-up assessments to monitor patient progress and identify any
necessary adjustments.
▪ Collaborate with the rehabilitation team to develop comprehensive treatment plans for
patients.
Maintenance and Repair:

Perform routine maintenance and repairs on orthopedic devices to ensure optimal
performance.
▪ Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with devices.
▪ Maintain accurate records of patient care, device fabrication, and maintenance.
Quality Assurance:
▪ Adhere to strict quality control standards to ensure the safety and effectiveness of orthopedic
devices.
▪ Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Administrative Duties:
▪ Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records within the hospital’s electronic system and
in physical records per the hospital’s practice.
Assist with training and supervision of orthopedic technician assistants and/ or artisans.
Financial Management
▪ Provide input into the department budget Ensure adherence to budget guidelines on
expenses.
Risk Management
Proactively identify risks and devise means of addressing them
Compliance
Adhere to all CoRSU policies
Required Qualifications, Skills and key competences
▪ Diploma in Orthopedic technology
▪ Registered with the Allied Health Professionals’ Council.
Minimum of two years of experience in orthopedic technology
Key Competencies
▪ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong technical skills in fabrication, fitting, and repair of orthopedic devices
Knowledge of current orthopaedic technology and best practices.
▪ Intermediate level computer skills with competence in Microsoft package and internet use.
▪ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
▪ Attention to detail, commitment to quality
▪ Demonstrates openness to acquiring new skills and strengthening clinical reasoning within a
highly specialized clinical environment.
▪ A passion for helping people with disabilities and a commitment to improving their quality
of life
▪ Knowledge of local regulations and standards related to medical device manufacturing
